Re: Graduation Gift acrylic sign

I have some 9 x 12 pieces I purchased from estreet plastics. I was having some serious issues with one side not scratching. When I used my digital calipers on the acrylic my sheet varied by .017 from side to side. I have another 4 sheets this size. Three of them have significant variances from side ...

Re: First Acrylic Carve

I am still new to acrylic, but my 3d images are also reversed and carved on the back. Is there an advantage to carving 3d images on the front?

Re: A few acrylics I made

Very nice. Good job. I really like your bases. Can you provide more information and pictures on how you are making the bases?

Thanks,
Roger

Re: First Text on Text

Nice job. Getting the first one done, on anything new, is always the hardest.

I will admit, I now put everything in Word first and then copy it into VCarve.

Re: Finally doing acrylic

I got the crucifix from Vector Art 3d. www.vectorart3d.com.

I used 1/2" acrylic and the crucifix cut to a depth of 0.4". I used a 1/8" end mill to rough and a 1/16" ball nose to finish. I was not sure if that was the right way to do it, but it came out nice.

Finally doing acrylic

St. Augustine acrylic.jpg acrylic crucifix.jpg I have finally started doing acrylic. I have no idea why I waited so long. The St. Augustine was done using quick engrave and a diamond drag bit. The crucifix is a 3d file. Both are 9” x 12”. These are the first two that I have done. Please let me know...

Re: Cheap, Quick Gifts

Like everything else, it took me a few tries to get a technique down that worked for me. I put contact paper on the pre-painted mdf. Cut it and then spray paint it. I let the spray paint dry for just a few minutes then pull off the contact paper. Put some mineral spirits on a rag and wrap it around ...

Cheap, Quick Gifts

I am not sure about the rest of you, but it seems everyone now expects me to make them gifts. I tend to forget birthdays and other events until the last moment. Now I keep a supple of painted mdf plaques in the shop. When I need a quick gift I just carve something on it and paint it. These are some ...

Re: birthday present

Wow, I am getting a headache trying to figure out all the the details it took to make this board. That is really nice. If this was not a work of love, I don't know what is.
