Ball nose bennies

I'm wondering what is the benefit(s) of a tapered ball nose as opposed to a regular one. I'm guessing that there is a difference since the tapered one cost about double of a typical one.

Thanks,
Mike

Photo VCarve question

I was looking to see if we have the ability to make a carved face from a picture actually stand off of the board and I finally read in the "features" section of the Photo VCarve software that we can do that. It's called 3D Greyscale machining. And then it goes on to say this, "3D Grayscale Machining...

Re: Paradise Box

AHA!! Now I can see it after that explanation. I wasn't thinking at all about the round bits not making a squared shoulder. Makes all the sense in the world now and thanks. I think I'll just stick with the dovetailing jig then. Thanks lots for the help. As always, I appreciate it.

Re: Paradise Box

4DThinker, I appreciate your response and I'm positive that you have way more experience here than I do cuz I'm relatively new to this. BUT, it doesn't make any sense that the board with the dovetails would have to stand on end to be cut. They do that in the dovetailing jig because it's a setup thin...

Paradise Box

I'm planning to make one of the freebie download projects that Vectric offers. It's the Paradise Box http://www.vectric.com/cool-stuff/projects/2011/paradise-box.html. Personally I would rather see that box using dovetail joints on the ends of the box and I'm wondering if most CNC'ers would program ...

Re: The dreaded "Fuzzies"

Mike, I have had a Pro Plus for more than two years and have tried many things to reduce fuzzies. I now have a Mako. Your feed and stepover is what I ran on my pro plus. I ran my rough cut with the grain and cut my finish 45 degrees. I run 20000 rpm and leave .030 to .040 for the finish cut, Using ...

Re: The dreaded "Fuzzies"

Roger, nice explanation, thanks. OK, take a look at the first pic that you sent and look at your last pass which is going through the top part of the ladder. Look on each side of the ladder and you'll see the fuzzies i'm refering to. However, your's are a bit different. Mine are actually being left ...

Re: The dreaded "Fuzzies"

Is it on 3d carvings or engraving or something else? I'm thinking it might have been 3d carve. Remember that even though the patterns that come with the have been provided as vectors, the actual set up isn't provided. You specify all of the settings when you adjust and generate you tap files. I use...

Re: The dreaded "Fuzzies"

Mike, Can u post a picture of it so we can see what you're talking about. Tony Well, Tony, I will definitely do that but it has to be on my next one since I've already went forward with the sanding of my project before I posted my question. I suppose I should have taken a few shots before I even se...

Re: Intellectual property

Well, I read it now and it seems that they are more concerned with their programming rather than what you actually make. They do pretty much say that you can't copy and sell the things they include on the CD like the samples themselves but they don't say at all that you can't make the project on you...
