Anyone interested?

Hello Forum! Long time since I logged in here but I was contacted about a job that I can't take and thought I'd put it out for anyone who might want to take it on. Here's what was sent to me: I am in need of some letters (customer's store name) CNC milled out of 1/2" or 5/8" MDF. Letters need to be ...

Re: Wood staining advice requested

Purist or not I think the blue acrylic is appropriate given the subject matter as is the red cedar bear.
Looks like really tight fits, too.
Thumbs up. :)

Re: Wood staining advice requested

I know I’m wondering into uncharted territory here.

I wander in that area a lot myself but sometimes those little walks into the unknown produce some spectacular results.
Sometimes they produce disasters too but we don't get photos of those.

Re: Wood staining advice requested

I've been a professional furniture finisher for too many decades to admit to and I can't think of any stain off the top of my head that would stand up to that kind of sanding and still retain its deep color. Water-based stains penetrate deeper than oil based stains (even the ones advertised as "deep...

Re: SOA reaper embossing plate for leather

This is something I've had an interest in for some time now - glad to see it can be done on the Shark.
Any idea how the long the delrin holds up to the press? And would you mind sharing any details about things like depth of carve and how intricate you can go on the design?

Re: Fluting & Text Depth

Could someone confirm that I am understanding the following correctly - Pass Depth - max depth a tool will go on a single pass. If this is set to .25, and I ask it to cut .35 deep, it will take two passes. Correct What if I only ask it to cut .125 deep, can it do that? If you're asking this questio...

Re: Fluting & Text Depth

Or are you inadvertently running more than one toolpath in that upper carve?
The reason I ask is because I see an outline of the lettering plus a v-carve of the lettering.

And maybe this is something I haven't yet discovered but is there a reason you'd use a fluting toolpath for text?

Re: other materials to carve on

My personal preferences are maple and cherry but I also like western red cedar, red (aromatic) cedar, birch, cypress and walnut. I don't use oak for several reasons. I've also used corian, aluminum, brass, mdf, mdf covered in fiberglass, pine, cabinet grade plywood, treated plywood, luan, tupelo, ho...

Re: Not cutting where I want it to

Uhmmm. I'm really confused now.... I'll go and play with it to see if I can gather what you are saying. Mark your center on your board. Clamp and square your board to the table. Open the Shark controller program. Using the second tab (Jog), move your bit left/right (X), front/back (Y), up/down (Z) ...
