Re: Help with feed rate and pass depth
The other way to get a good starting pair of "Feeds and Speeds" is to use a purpose-built calculator. I'm using the one the G-Wizard from CNC Cookbook. It has far more capabilities than I would ever hope to use, but it's completely stopped bits breaking in the Aluminum I'm doing, clogging with melte...

Re: Spindle For Shark Available
Rungemach, that's a good idea for the 110V output. And yes, modifying the box seems to me "normal", since I've been modifying it to "fix" certain design "issues" related to grounding, wiring, noise, cooling,.... More invasive surgery to my controller box seemed like a foregone conclusion. Warranty? ...

Re: Shop Laptop recommendations?
For me, the Shark's computer is outside the shop area. I use an ethernet-based USB device server so that the computer ("\\studio") connects to the Shark over ethernet. That keeps that computer completely out of dust, static and high-power surges as the motors go on and off. While I'm at the machine,...

Re: Spindle For Shark Available
Thanks for sparking my interest, pushing me over the edge to one of the 2.2kw spindles. I went with the air cooled one, just because. I used the platform template provided on this forum, modified for an 80mm cutout. I'll make two plastic ones first, then when the spindle comes I'll make some aluminu...

Re: Max feedrates
So 200 ipm for "fast" moves, and potentially that much if the Feeds and Speeds claim so.... But really, can somebody give one or two practical F&S examples that indicate an upper limit? Like, say, a 1/4" endmill at 0.20" DOC and full slotting in 6061 Aluminum? Or, 1" endmill at 0.005" and 0.75" over...

Re: If You Had A Choice
Zstat....LOL...doesn't your handle, in electronics, mean the impedance (Z) to static discharge? Ironic? Phhoooey! One way I have my shark running, that keeps my PC completely isolated, is that the USB connection actually happens over ethernet. I have one of these, essentially a USB device server. Th...
