Re: how the software works and cuts?

Something to keep in mind with a design like yours is that you have to make allowanced for sharp, narrow inside corners. The narrowest cut is limited by the diameter of the bit you are using. There will be a compromise between the speed of clearing larger areas with a larger diameter bit and sharper...

Re: computer hardware setup

While I don't have Aspire (just Vcarve and 3dcut), I built my computer for being able to run 3d CAD applications. I chose the Intel i7 920 (don't know if they are still available) because of it being one of the lower cost i7 processors, and it's reputation of being able to be easily overclocked. I a...

Balsa wood storage bin

This project consisted of 59 CNC cut pieces in 10 different designs. I also had to use the tiling option as they are all 36.125" long and I have the original shark. The outer case was done on a table saw.

Re: New cabinet

I like having doors. It makes it easier to work on long pieces. This came in handy on my current project which required tiling the job and being able to open 1 door at a time still contained much of the dust.

Re: cutting carbon fiber?

Another caution. Carbon fiber is conductive, and the dust could short out electrical components. I would say that a vacuum is a must.

Re: Z axis error - Need help!

A couple of possiblilities to check. Check the coupling for the Z motor. If it slips when raising the router, the router will be lower than the control panel indicates, and when it decends, it will go below what you had set as zero. The same thing can happen if the Z motor stalls when raising the ro...

Re: Going well , but a question

I mounted cross hairs on the x and y axis at the center of the workspace. For most jobs, I use the center of the workpiece as 0,0. I mark the center of the piece and place that point directly under the bit. Any time I move to x=0,y=0 I know the bit is at the center of the workpiece. I also purchased...

Re: Price boost on basic Shark

One thing to keep in mind about the accuracy of belt driven laser engravers is that they have much less load forces as they do not touch the material.

Re: Entering new tools into tool Data Base V CarvePro

Here's a general description of the various parameters. What values to use can vary based on the material of the bit and the material the bit is being used on. Geometry Diameter (D) is the diameter of the cutting tip of the bit such as the .0625, .125 and .2498 for the bits you listed. Cutting Param...

Re: Scanning to vector software

I will usually just re-draw the logo using Corel Draw with a bitmap of the item on a locked layer as a guide. I find it's more accurate and often faster than trying to clean up a trace.
