Re: Dead Z axis

I wanted to say that the folks at NWA are really on the ball! I emailed them and had a response within 20 minutes. He agreed with me that the controller was bad. I've got a new one on the way..

I need my Shark back!!

Re: Dead Z axis

Hi 4D

There is absolutely nothing happening on the Z axis. Not a sound. The motor operates perfectly when I plug it into another channel.

I've got an email into nextwave. They have already responded.. Quick

Dead Z axis

Morning all I popped into the shop this morning to cut some shell for a fingerboard inlay. I fired up my shark, went to jog the router out of the way and had no Z control. X & Y are fine. I swapped channels to see if the stepper motor was falty. It's fine. The control software says the Z axis is mov...

Re: Accuracy

Thanks..

I liked the prospect of not having to bind the fretboard. I'm dying to try a fan-fret.. 27" scale length on the low E and 25.4 on the high.

Do you have the precise bits collet upgrade? If you don't you will. The stock collet will snap your $25, .023 bit in short order.

Cheers, Michael

Re: Accuracy

Hi Tom.. My fingerboards are done on my shark. I do all of my drawing on my Mac and then export as a DXF file (much faster than trying to slog through drawing with Vcarve). In my "highdesign" drawing settings I go for decimal inches using .0000 resolution. I use the precise bits .023 freting bit. Th...

Re: What do I need to know?

Hello.. First of all I think the Shark is a great machine for the money! It's very easy to use, and Vcarve is a perfect companion software package. I do find drawing with Vcarve to be clumsy, so I do all of my drawings on my Mac and export as a DXF to Vcarve. It really saves me a ton of time. You co...

Re: Fingerboard

Roger, The Precise Bits website has all of the rate parameters for each bit they sell. As you can see from the picture, the fingerboard is radiused. I set my Z0 to the top of the crown plus .004 (thickness of a piece of paper) and set my final depth to .085". The Max DOC for the fret cutter is .09"....
