A tip for Tool Changes for REST machining

I have a project where I use 4 different tools to refine the details. I start with a 1/4" tool, then 1/8", then 1/16" and finally a 1/32". All the tool paths smaller than 1/4" use the REST method to reduce machining time. The detail is fine enough that it is really important to get the Z0 value for ...

Re: How does PAUSE work

Thom, Thanks for the code chunk. This does let me inspect the work and resume from where it left off. By inserting the Null Tool Change, I am interrupting the toolpath between g-code commands. It creates a clean break in the process that lets me continue to a known position. Perfect. I have attached...

This link has picture of the trim pieces I'm making. It's way at the bottom. http://forum.vectric.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=28689

Re: How does PAUSE work

I'm pretty sure I've paused in the middle of a single instruction, like a long movement. I don't recall the controller waiting until the end of the instruction line before pausing. It pauses instantly and resumes when I hit resume. OK. It's the controller that's doing the pause, probably triggered ...

Ouch. I've had it dive into the table even when I didn't use Pause. Thanks.

How does PAUSE work

I have some long running tool paths (several hours) and I want to be able to pause, move the cutter away from the work piece, inspect the work piece for proper carving, and then resume where it left off. So I need to know a couple things. 1) does the pause happen between g-code lines? I.E. does it f...

Re: very slow 3D carving

Stewart, To respond directly, It tried the defaults first (40 ipm X/Y, 10 ipm plunge and 12,000 rpm. It was very slow. I don't know if it's actually doing 200 ipm on the profile cuts now but it is pretty fast - lots faster than the default I forgot to mention before that I set the Z axis plunge spee...

very slow 3D carving

I'm doing a 3D project which is cutting very slowly. I have the cutting speed set to 200 Inches per minute. There a couple profile cuts where the tool steps out at the specified speed. It gradually speeds up (the half inch or so) at the beginning of the cut and slows before the end. However for cuts...

Re: Shark work leveling system

OK. Two comments - the first is software, the second hardware. First, I think the Virtual Z0 is supposed to do this. I experimented a lot and discovered how it works. VZ (virtually) places a short 4 sided pyramid on top of the work piece. It is a pyramid with 4 flat faces that meet at the center of ...
