When i received the machine i went through every nut and bolt making sure it was tight and removing and using glue/loctite on bolts/setcrews that needed it. Never had a problem with couplers coming loose.

I have cut 3/8" thick using both 1/4" and 1/8" two flute upspiral bits at 30 IPM .02 pass and router at 16,000 RPM. But the thin aluminum that you are trying may need to be actually glued down or sanwiched as previously mentioned to eliminate any warping in the material.
