Re: BROKEN GANTRY!!!

I am in sarasota. where in Fla are you? I have the old linear bearings, lead screws, and plastic sides for the z axis that are spare. I'm still using my gantry sides at the moment, haven't replaced them yet. I would check with NWA for prices on the gantry side if yours is beyond repair. did you dama...

Re: How much z axis movement should be allowed

This thread may help in trying to put some numbers to the machine flex issue. http://www.cncsharktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=746 Jerry, who started the thread, and is now building the DIY "Big Bamboo" cnc, measured the flex in his new pro plus, I compared his numbers it to the numbers I was getting...

Re: Wood Gear Clocks

Thanks for your comments Jeffrey, I took a look at Involute and it looks quite interesting, though pricey. Recently bought Gearotic Motion from the creator of Mach3. Its 75 dollars, has a free demo, and recently added a generator for Graham escapements. Clayton directed me to DeltaCad as an inexpens...

Re: Shark Vs K2CNC modle 14X14

A lot of good thoughts on this issue so far. I wanted to clarify that in my prior post I did not mean to say that Rockler or NWA provides NO support, only that I feel a more visible presence would be helpful and an opportunity for them. If NWA has a full time position for handling customer issues, p...

Re: Shark Vs K2CNC modle 14X14

I would tend to agree with John on the observation of infrequent posts from Rockler or NWA. I have seen times where a timely answer from the manufacturer would have been very helpful and appropriate. "Users helping users" can only go so far when the manufacturer should have the best machine related ...

Re: Shark Vs K2CNC modle 14X14

From the K2 website, it looks like the 1414 is about $3400.00 equipped similarly to the regular (smaller) shark. It is a small desktop machine, 14 x 14 x 5" travel, not the size of the pro. You can price their machines with various options on their website. For pricing I used: mount for Colt router,...

Re: Y axis motor only moves in one direction

It sounds like you have verified that the motors are OK by changing the leads. The motor driver board powers the motors and gets two signals from the controller board. one is to move a "step", the other is which direction to move in. If the motor driver loses its direction signal, it will only step ...

Re: Shark Pro Plus HD

From the HD specs page.. "more power that allows up to 200 inches per min." "Resolution: control to 0.000125 inch." do these occur simultaneously? while cutting something? Is that speed for rapids only? It appears that the machine is more accurate than the tolerance of a good router collet. .0005 Th...

Wood Gear Clocks

I wanted to build some wood gear clocks for holiday gifts this year and began by building the Simplicity model from plans by Clayton Boyer. This is a very commonly built design with a lot of good info on the web. Just search for Simplicity Clock. I built this first one from baltic birch ply to get t...
