Re: Sign making

Not much to go on. Are you making pithy plaques to hang in the home, or carved, painted outdoor signs for businesses? Are you providing the materials or the customer? Are you doing the design work or the customer? Is this a business, or just to make a few bucks from your hobby? My point is that ther...

Re: How I make spoil boards

John, it lasts me about a ear typically (unless I boo-boo and cut too deep into it) and the MDF will absorb moisture over time so it will still need to be surfaced when mounted.

Re: How I make spoil boards

No table is ever big enough! LOL I used to run a machine custom built for a stair company. 5 feet wide and 14 long and I STILL had parts hanging off the edges. The first machine I programmed, I lied to the CAD guys about the working area. I told them it was 2" smaller all the way around because I kn...

How I make spoil boards

This is my Shark with the spoil board. http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u391/handi45/100_1231_zpse0e0f0b0.jpg I created a video showing how I make it. Literally takes more time to surface the spoil board than to make it. http://youtu.be/iyt8zOJUQJ4 Does not matter which machine or table you are u...

Re: carving half scale

The first thing I'd ask is if the .dxf or whatever is importing at the right scale. You should have defined the blank size as your first step if you are drawing in VCarve, so the screen should show you the relative scale. If you open a file as a .dxf, it should automatically create a board sized to ...

Re: ABS chip clearing

Two things: first, pretty much no commercial CNC has great dust collection. I've worked with many models and many brands and they pretty much all leave crap behind. About the best you can hope for is to keep airborne dust under control. Second, cutting ABS properly SHOULD be great for sucking up in ...

Re: Controller SD card

The files being stored on the SD card are literally text files. A 10 hour carving run won't take up as much space as an MP3 song. Space on the SD card is not the issue. The SD card itself well may be. I have had them go bad in cameras and such. I have also had them go through the washer and dryer an...

Re: ArtCam Express

I've not used the 3D features. I can't see what is going on with 2D carving in the preview, I have NO chance of seeing any detail in 3D.

Re: ArtCam Express

Bruce,

I have ArtCam Express 2011. It DOES have a CNC Shark post processor. Only one, CNC Shark Inch .tap

I had forgotten, but ArtCam also requires a 'dongle' to work. You need to plug in a USB stick that allows the program to work. It will not open without the dongle.

Re: ArtCam Express

Bruce,

My version is a bit older, but I'll open it on my laptop tomorrow and see if there is a post.
