Ralph gives a good description of how to re-register a project accurately. It should work for your drumsticks.

Re: Help for VCarve Engraving on a Convex Surface

Rod,
It's always good to hear from you.

The biggest challenge for this project is registering the drumstick properly for engraving.

There's a good description somewhere here on the forum. I'll go check.

Re: Help for VCarve Engraving on a Convex Surface

Rod, I would use a circular 3D tab, from the Vectric clip art folder. Change the width and height to match a drumstick. Use the " project toolpath onto a 3D model " to engrave on this project. To position the drumstick for engraving: clamp long block of wood to the table and engrave a groove into th...

Re: Recommended windows10 settings for compatibility with Shark?

Kenton,
Thank you for the update.
Registration of the equipment remains my biggest obstacle to using cnc.
After all connections are good, the actual operation 0f a cnc is relatively easy.

Re: Cutting Clock Hands

Just a thought: I've made clock hands from 1/64, or 1/32 plywood. I purchased it from hobby shops that have model airplane supplies. If necessary, I make a small diameter hub and glue it to a hand.

Re: router bit migrated off the tool path

Jon You may have a dull bit when: Burn marks are on the wood Discolored bit Fuzzy edges on cuts The cut no longer looks clean The cutting may sound different than when the bit was new Making dust instead of chips Magnified visual inspection of the cutting edge shows a dull bit A bit that is running ...

Re: router bit migrated off the tool path

There are many possible causes: The bit may have come loose. The collet may be not clean. The bit may be extended too far out of the collet. The wood may not be clamped down securely. The bit may be dull. The collet or bit may have lubricant on it, causing the bit to slip. There may be sawdust in th...

Another question: In what place on the bit does it break? The same place?

Re: When pocket cutting walls are tearing out

I was just thinking...If a collet is damaged internally, it can cause higher pressure on one side of the bit. Causes of damage: a broken bit, normal wear, improperly cleaned collet, improperly cleaned bit, dropped collet, and the list goes on. Also sawdust in the collet can cause uneven clamping pre...

Re: When pocket cutting walls are tearing out

Usually heat is caused if you're not making chips...The feed rate is too slow. If the feed is too slow you're making dust, which does not remove heat. Or, the bit speed is too fast...same result, dust instead of chips. Your boxes don't seem to show burning, so I'm not sure what is causing the bits t...
