New to CNC programming

Post by gad5264 »

I am thinking of getting a CNC Shark one of these days but I have had no training in CNC programming. I am looking for some of you Shark owners who might point me in the proper direction for some reading material on how to get started.

Thanks in advance.

Well, the good news is you really don't have to create your own CNC instruction file in g-code. While you an choose to do that, not many folks do. The Shark comes with VCarve Pro (made by Vectric). To get a sense of what you can do with this software, you can download for free a fully functional trial version - the only thing it won't do is write a tap file - the file you load onto the Shark - http://www.vectric.com.

Vectric has many of their tutorials available online - so you can test drive the software and learn how to use it at the same time - without spending a dime.

Vectric also recently created a great introduction to CNC - I'd encourage you to review it online or download it and read it - http://www.vectric.com/support/introduction-to-cnc.html.

The Shark Owner's Manual also provides a sense of the typical workflow - you can find it on NWA's Downloads page - http://www.nextwaveautomation.com/DownLoads.aspx.

Hope this helps get you started in your quest...

Joe, that should keep me busy for a while. I really appreciate your response.

Thanks again,

Grant,

I created the instructional videos Rockler is using for the Shark. I have been training CNC programmers and operators for nearly 20 years over many different software packages and Machine brands.

Check out the videos posted on this site and then feel free to get in touch and I will be happy to answer specific questions.

Ralph
