How to create a keyhole slot?

Post by tyger_purr »

How can I create a keyhole slot.

I have searched the forums but all of the solutions seem to be "use the gadget". Unfortunately, I have Vcarve desktop and cannot afford to pay $350 to make a keyhole.

Are there any other options?
I run a CNC Piranha with a Bosch Colt.

Draw a line starting where you want the bit to plunge, click on the place you want it to end, then click again near (but not ON) the starting point. Now turn on (N)ode mode, select the two-segment line, then drag/drop the end point over on top of the beginning point. When you choose the bit (t-slot bit) be sure and set it to do the cut in one pass.

When I use T-slot bits I usually have preceded their use with an end mill the diameter of the shaft of the t-bit. It clears out the center as many t-bits don't have a cutter in the center to plunge well with.
