3d finish tool

Post by jim618 »

Hi I am new to cnc I have a cnc shark hd5. I have a question on 3D finishing tool path it seems to cut to deep when doing 3D models. It wants to finish the model in one tool pass. Is there a setting I am missing? It will cut down a 1/4 inch in one pass.

3 d cutting path will make many passes to get fine detail- usually a tapered ball tip bit can not cut very deep on each pass...I am sure other will chirp in to. good luck- also it is better to use the larger bit first to get the bulk on the wood gone BEFORE the fine finishing bit- tool path runs. Jim,
The 3D toolpath will go full depth. That's just the way it is.
Setting the roughing toolpath will eliminate a lot of the excess material.
