Adding tool to Database

Post by terryz854 »

OK, I know this subject has been beaten to death but let me explain. I bought my CNC Router in October and have finally gotten a Diamond Drag bit to go with it. Now I've added other tools to the database but when I select the Specialist Category to add this bit it says tool data invalid. I brought up another tool to try and copy and edit it to match the diamond bits specs but the Specialist category is not a drop down option. Can anyone provide me some laymen's terms as to how to add this bit to the database? Thanks in advance.

OK, everything's a learning curve. I discovered if I tried to edit an existing toolpath I would get the message invalid tool. But if I redrew the toolpath it let me use the diamond drag bit. Sorry Guys.

On the same note (adding a tool to the database)

I am trying to add a 1/2" x 1/2" dovetail bit to the tool database under menu/header form tools. I draw a right side representation of the bit as told by error message which I had received the first time I entered tool into database and several other variations of the drawing without any success in getting rid of the nasty error message. What is the correct way to enter in the dovetail bit??? I have added roundover bits, chamfer bits, mortising bits, and straight bits with no problems at all!

Any help would be very much appreciated! ;)

Have a GREAT EASTER WEEKEND EVERYONE!!! :)

You can not add a bit to the Tool Data Base that contains undercut geometry like a dovetail bit. However you can use bits with this geometry if you start away from the part and exit away from the part but you may have to cut an access for the bit at the start and end point.

Thank You! After I posted the question and pondered it with further thought I came to realized - that particular bit is not intended for CNC use and Vectric realized this when developing their software.

Thank you again for your insight meb! All help is definitely appreciated!

Continue to cutup that wood and do it SAFELY!!! ;)
