I had the same problem with the dust boot brushes being too stiff. Took a long while to figure out what the problem was. I received and installed the updated softer brush and the bristles were sucking into the dust hose connector so that isn't working. I replaced the brushes around the dust port inlet and left the other half with the soft brushes. It doesn't suck in the bristles but it was still too stiff. I cut half to the stiff bristles back and it helped but still not good enough. Wondering if the Kent dust boot is better?

Regarding the dust boot problems, This thread has info regarding timing the bristles on an angle, so that they do not all hit at the same time.

This lessens the gantry flex issue when using a dust boot.

Hope this helps
