Dante:

Did you SWAP the X and Y to test? That is, you know Y-drive + Y-motor = working.

So, Test [X-drive + Y-motor], and [Y-drive + X-motor]. That should at least tell you if it's in the box or in the motor/cable.

If both X-drive and X-cable are bad, then life sux, and it's back to NWA for you

And yeah, check for bent/broken pins in the plugs (and pray you don't find any broken or bent). While you're there, since you had controller problems before, check the insulation and wiring along the length of the axis-drive cables; make sure there aren't any signs of overheating, fraying, heat-shrink tubing sliding down, etc. Each of the four stepper signals are sent over those DB9s in pairs of pins. But, sometimes a wire or a pin can break, and all that current will have to go over one pin and wire. If that happens, there can be some overheating of the wires. Since you're "already in there", be sure to just give a check to that as well. After all, if a fire DOES start, you'll forever kick yourself for not checking when your nose was mere inches away :)
