indexing a job

Hi All

I was wondering if someone could tell me how to index a job?
The max travel on the Y axis on my shark is about 630mm but i Guess the length of a job could be as long as you like by moving the workpiece thru the machine what i cant work out is how to line up the workpiece to cut the next area once the first 600mm has been cut.
