Paint bleeding! How to prevent?

Post by IDBD »

Hi All,

I need help please.
When I paint my items with spray paint and let dry I get bleed lines on the edges of the cut ins after I sand the top off.
Used primer, shalack, ect before painting and it still bleeds.
How do I get a nown bleed finish ?

Thank you in advance.

Use contact paper over area before you cut than spray and after dry remove contact paper. I also some times finish board first than cut when I paint I use craft paint and wipe off wet sponge before it dryes

What I do is put about 3 coats of shellac on, than put on a mask and carve thru it and I use spray ink instead of spray paint because spray ink dries in about 30 secs and never had no bleed thru.

Tony,
Where do you get your spray ink? I use the same process, but use spray paint. If you put it on in very thin coats, it doesn't soak in, but it does take a long time, and many coats to get good coverage.

I very seldom use spray paint because it is so thin that it gets into the slightest pores of the wood grain.

I have had very good performance from hobby paints which are brushed on. Sure brush on paints take longer to apply but the end results are significantly better than using spray paint.

I also find that listening to music and painting is far better than becoming a couch potato watching the boob tube (TV).

Just my three cents worth!

Have a GREAT DAY!!! :)
