Trying to digest previous responses. I agree that you should be able to use the previous z setting. My problem is manually changing bits. For the existing z setting to work properly, would not the 2nd bit have to extent the exact distance out of the collet? I personally use the corner method as previously described?

I do believe you would need to reset the Z height, every time you change a bit. If not, you would never get correct cut depth and ruin the work piece.
