Scan Probe Questions

Post by historybuff »

Hello,

The photo shows the probe scanning a dime. Can it really be that accurate? For what I want to do with it, it doesn't really need to be that sensitive, but the item I want to scan does have areas that are small pinpoints of about 1/64 of an inch.

1) Can the scan probe accomplish this?

2) For a detailed image that has areas with a texture of pinpoints about 1/64 inch each, what router bit would I use?

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

The scan probe will sense the bumps of the surface but what it senses is restricted to the size of the ruby on the probe tip. In other words, if there is a small "crevice" of an item that the ruby is too big to go in then that scan detail will be less than the actual. I find my tip very sensitive even sensing "checks" in my wood surface.
