Desktop CNC lathe question

Post by crob09 »

Hi,

I am in the process of building a cnc lathe to accompany my mill, there is a picture of the mill on my website http://www.whatisacnc.com and I will be adding information as things progress with this project.
I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for making a chuck, the motor i am using is 1/3 hp out of a blower, and has a shaft that has been modified (filed) the end of the shaft has a threaded hole and bolt to hold something but I don't know where to begin.

Any help finding a good solution for a DIY chuck would be greatly appreciated.

Rob from http://www.whatisacnc.com and http://www.cncstuff.com

I would look at a ready made chuck, either a Stronghold or Nova. Both at self centering and had a varity of jaws depending on what you want to hold and how big it is.

As for the motor, I would think that since this is a CNC lathe you won't need a lot of speed so a stepper would work better and allow you to carve and shape.
