Which 1/2" router

Post by wolffie »

Apparently there are no 1/2" shank palm routers available here in Australia.
Which one should I buy fron 'the other side of the pond' and are they available for 220 volts?
Thanks.
Cheers

If you are talking about a "Palm" router apparently you don't have the HD model of Shark. I don't think any of the routers that are compatible for the non-HD machine have the ability to be fitted with a 1/2" collet. I haven't looked, but you might try Precise Bits to see if they have sometihng, but I think the shaft size is going to limit the possibilities.

All of the palm routers I'm aware of (Bosch, Ridgid, Dewalt, Ryobi, Makita, B&D, and Porter Cable) can't go up to 1/2". The tool would actually be bigger then the collet.

According to a post you made in March, you ordered a Shark HD which is designed to take a much larger router (2.5 h.p.).
All the large routers here will take a 1/2" bit. The big problem is to find a GOOD collet to take bits less than 1/4".

Hi Doug,

Have you looked at the collets at Precision Bits? http://www.precisebits.com/products/equ ... 18_Collets - I purchased the set that had 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2" collets for the Bosch that I use. It was a no brainer for me as the PB collet for the Colt was such an improvement over the manufacturer's setup.

You can also purchase the percise bits and collets in the Shark Store.
Thanks

Thanks all.
We don't call them palm routers here, so I just chose what I thought was right over there
Fixed base routers are almost unknown here.
The Shark IS a HD but we cannot buy anything useful here so I was worried about the voltage.
In USA they have 110 volts, we have 220/240 volts.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
