Stepover is the distance the bit moves over when cutting. Most people have a stepover of 8-12% when doing 3d projects when using ball nose bits. also read the help contents in the programs under help.

This is from the help contents in cut 3d

Stepover is the distance the cutter moves over when finish machining. For a smooth high quality surface the stepover should typically be less than 20% of the diameter of the cutter. The larger the stepover the faster the job will be machined, but the rougher the surface finish will be.

A stepover of between 10% and 20% is typically used for finish machining toolpaths and should give a good surface finish for most materials.

Spindle Speed is specified in revolutions per minute

Feed Rate is the surface cutting rate at which the cutter is moved into the material. The units can be specified in distance per second or minute.

Plunge Rate is the cutting rate at which the cutter is moved vertically into the material. The units can be specified in distance per second or minute.

Ttolli,

This post will help to explain the relationship of stepover and surface finish while carving with ball end mills.

I'll add that stepover is also used doing pocket cuts, and in that case 33% - 50% is what I typically use. You can use a larger number as well, depending on how quickly you want the pocket cleared out.
