1st cut in aluminum

Post by Jim N »

My first try in 1/4" aluminum. This is a bracket I cut, broke one bit & gummed up others before I used the up spiral. I followed the bit with compressed air. Sure beats a hacksaw ;)

Looks good! Care to share what pass and feed speed you used?

Since I'm new to cutting 1/4" aluminum, I used the default rates. Spindle - 12,000. Feed - 100. Plunge - 30.
I did slow the FRO to 35 and cut my colt to 1/2 speed. The pass depth I set to 0.03". It worked pretty well
Could may have sped up the FRO. trial & error

Bracket in action. I replace the plastic depth stop on my HF drill press. I stuck the two
1/4" aluminum plates together with JB Weld.
