Anti Static Hose

Post by rsetina »

I saw this at Rockler and want to ask if anyone has used this or think it will work to prevent static buildup?

As long as you attach the metal part of the hose to a good ground it will keep down the static charge. You can accomplish the same thing by running an un-insulated wire (copper is best) inside your collection hose for the entire length and grounding it. If you used PVC tubing for your dust collection running a wire through the entire system will eliminate static charges and prevent clogs caused by dust buildup.

FYI that aluminum tape use on your AC system is also a good (not best) conductor. Tape it to the inside of your tube overlapping to the outside on the ends do the same with your connection pieces. Just line up the tape when you assemble.

Thanks for the info. I've never had a dust collection system on my Shark HD and the dust and wood chips are so invasive I've gotten tired of all the vacuuming I have to do every time I use it. This, I think will do the trick.
