Carving from a photo

Post by lazym »

Can I take a black and white photo and carve its likeness into wood with my cnc shark pro? I have a lot of animal pictures that I would like to make carvings of (2D or 3D). I thought I read someplace that I could do this but I can't find where to look.

I have had success in taking the original photo, increasing the contrast in photo software and then importing the image into VCarve (Import Bitmap). Once you have imported it, you press the "convert to vectors" button, and you're good to go. It takes a little trial and error to look right, but it works well.

If you take a look at what I did with a couple photos you can get an idea. http://www.cncsharktalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=190

Thanks Dave

I imported the moose, after playing with the light/dark and contrast and it seems to work great.
