Has anyone tried the duplicator? Is it worth the $$$$? How accurate is it?

Formally called a probe. It is slow going becuase to get a good starting model you have to set the increment to pretty small steps.
And the result is 'in the ball-park' of what you want and you'll still have to do some smoothing of the resulting STL -> which implies you'll need Aspire or something similar that works with STL files. I've used mine once or twice and wouldn't give it any better than a 8.0 score.
