Best Foam for Prototypes/Testing?

Post by acebetter »

I've been doing some prototypes on pine, but there are many drawbacks such as expense, cupping of the wood, limited width, etc. I understand foam is good to use for prototypes or testing. I'm looking for suggestions on the best foam to use and where to purchase?
Thanx

I answered my own question with some research and experimentation. Owens Corning Foamular works very well. It is sold at Home Depot and Menards. It comes in 4x8 sheets with various thicknesses. 1/2", 3/4" 1", 1 1/2" and 2". Home Depot also sells 2'x2' sheets, but it is a better value to buy 4x8 sheets. It cuts very well and most of the dust is collected by the vacuum connected to the boot. I think it's a good way to test designs inexpensively.
