Hangover

Post by texasinmi »

I have a Shark HD 2.5, sold by Rockler. I would like to use it to cut dovetails. I have been reading the posts about the hangover router extension but it appears a little light weight for my PC 892 router and the fact it really has to hang out the front due to the design of the HD vs the Pro's that are described in the posts. I have also read the Vectric dovetail gadget, but the finish quality is not there with that approach.

Is there something that has been done to address this dovetailing?

I haven't seen a great solution for the Sharks.
Watching with interest...

Have you seen this solution?

Looks promising, especially for box joints, but there is a dovetail solution as well.

The problem with the Shark is not generating G code but mounting the piece of wood vertically so that the router can cut properly. Thanks for the product information.

You can do it with the shark, but, you would have to really want to. To set it up would require a bunch of work, then realignment. And then it would only work for pieces 3/4" and thinner.

You would have to:
Move the entire shark top back to where the front edge is aligned with the front motor
Position your shark on a table to allow your board to hang down past the edge of the table and the front of the front edge of the now re-positioned shark top.
Clamps will have to be figured out.

You will be working at the maximum limit of the Y axis.

Don't forget to re-align everything.
