Router tip does not reach cnc bed or spoil board

Post by jmarsz »

I have recently installed the HD520 SPOIL BOARD KIT in hopes of solving my flatness issues and providing myself with a grid that is square to the machine rather than the bed.
I discovered that my router doesn't travel low enough to touch the aluminum bed or the newly installed spoil board.
I have a Dewalt router in the machine and am using typical CNC bits.

Until now I have just raised my projects up with scraps, but you can imagine my delight in learning about the spoil boards and grids!
I am new to CNC, and I hope this is a dumb solution. - Thanks

There are many solutions:

1. Try lowering the router in the clamp if possible.
2. There are holes of the sides of the gantry legs that can be used to adjust gantry height. Are there any empty holes beneath the holes being used now?
3. What you are doing now...raise the stock with scraps, or a thicker spoilboard.
4. Is your Z travel hitting the gantry?

What do you think about these?

Thank you for replying.
The answer to your suggestions.
1. The Dewalt (approved model) can not go farther down in the mount.
2. I see where the gantry holes are. The setup indicates that I need three holes filled with screws. I am at the lowest setting in the gantry legs without losing screws.
3. Raising stock with scarps is how I have been working for this limited time. However, making things square and flat to the machine has been a problem, and I shouldn't HAVE to do this.
4. My router doesn't reach the spoil board before the limit on the gantry is reached.

I am thinking of trying a collet extension I found on amazon.
I am confused as to why the router is approved if it cant reach.

Still hoping there is a simple solution to this...

Can you post a pictures of the router in the clamp and also the height of the gantry sides.

Here are a couple images of the router in the machine and the side legs bolted.

Remove the depth adjusting ring on the router.
If it were removed, the router could be mounted further down in the clamp.

Why have you not posted a Side View photo of the router mounted and moved down to its lowest point(-Z) on the Z-Axis?

It may or may not help in determining the issue but at least the photo may help rule out a suspected issue.

Thank you Tony,
This suggestion provided what was needed to determine a solution:
"Can you post a pictures of the router in the clamp and also the height of the gantry sides."
