Router Bit Storage
This is a router bit storage box that I designed as a prize for Customer Appreciation Days at our Milwaukee Rockler Store. There will be a foam insert installed to hold the bits, Rockler item number 42287.
The dovetail idea was adapted from a series of 50 cnc wood joints posted on-line:

Re: Router Bit Storage
Nice box. You might add in a simple board with evenly arrayed .26" and .51" holes pocketed into it to work as the bit holding part.

I must have been editing my post at the same time you were offering your suggestion...4DThinker wrote:Nice box. You might add in a simple board with evenly arrayed .26" and .51" holes pocketed into it to work as the bit holding part.

Re: Router Bit Storage
I guess great minds think alike, Bob.
I'm so bored today I spent a few minutes drawing up my own bit holder CRV file. Same size as the one Rockler sells. Slightly different hole pattern. Rendered it in granite as that looked the most like black foam. Feel free to use as you wish, everyone.

Re: Router Bit Storage
Thank you.
One more thought to add if you plan on making these joints, specify climb cuts. Conventional cutting is too agressive on the ends of the pins and tails.

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Thanks.
Things are looking up! I didn't have to go with plan "C".

Those dovetails are a very cleaver approach. You can use the same tool throughout.
