A sign for our doctor

Post by Wolffie1 »

Our doctor has given us some timber from his property with more to come so I thought I would make him a sign for his desk

Good thinking Wolffie, can't hurt. Nice job, love the wood, what species is it?
Being retired is hard work. Spending way too much time in the shop these days. (And loving it).

Hi Keith
The timber is a native Australian tropical species, a kind of Sheoak. Very dense, hard but not brittle. Nice to cut with no sanding needed.
Just for some trivia. Our oaks are evergreen with needles instead of leaves.
I have some pictures on my Balckberry Tablet, just have to figure how to get them on the computer :D
I gave it one coat of sanding sealer before I used black walnut stain. No bleeding and the stain just wiped off the surface.

Hi Kare
Thanks
The thumb has healed well, just numb where I cut the ball off.
Did you see I made a lithophane of Madam? Yours did not work out unfortunately :(
It did help me, however, to work out how to do it :)
Cheers

I must have missed it earlier but just took a look.
Sorry the vcarve version didn't work out but I could never get her nose or mouth just right.
Pets are hard!

Glad you're back in the shop!
Oh and thanks for that other info you passed on to me... I now know exactly what you mean.
