Threaded shaft

Post by ruhnau »

Here is a more aggressive thread which was cutter with a .25 dia cutter on the 4th axis fixture. The nut, which I will attempt to make, will have to be hand cut since there is no gadget available. I will post my result when completed.

Kurt,
Once again you have shown what can be done with existing technology.
It appears that the techniques that you are developing are the same as what will be needed whenever the "real" 4th axis comes out.
I'm really curious about how you get the threads to match when wrapping the file.
Keep on innovating.

Saw this in person. This thing is cool. Looks like a shock absorber from a 67 Mustang! Hope you get the nut figured out. 8-)

Nice! I just completed building 4th Axis accessory for my CNC Shark HD based on Bob's Simple design. One of my test runs was similar to yours. Yours looks just like Acme threads.

See my post at http://www.cncsharktalk.com/viewtopic.p ... 120#p23982

I did some research on how to cut a internal threads today and stumbled on your post on threaded rod and nut. Couldn't you use Paul Roundtree's Thread gadget to make the nut for the Acme threads too? I assume you would need a different side cutting tool to do it for Acme threads.

May I ask what other project have you tried using the 4th Axis accessory? Have you done any thing using fluting technique?

Again I like your Acme threads!

Have a great day!

.. Rod
