So it is true that we work on subjects other than bees and various farm animals here...
Box is a gift from a retired Master Chief to his soon to be Chief Petty officer son-in-law. Cypress with hand rubbed poly for a finish. Box joints cut using table saw and Incra Jig. Carving on 4 of the 5 sides. 12" x 12" x 8" overall. Lid about 7/8" thick with a rim on the inside so it is secure and held in place when placed on the top of the box. The Coast Guard emblem an CPO insignia (anchor) were purchased from http://www.cncmilitaryemblems.com/. I created the CPO rank insignia using Aspire - the eagle based on insignia drawings found in the service manual. The 'cog' indicates a Chief Machinist. Interestingly enough, the Coast Guard eagle is different than the US Navy eagle.
