Soap carving

Post by Keith Hodges »

Ok, got a little bored today and looking for something new. Saw a bar of soap, and wondered how it would work as a carving media. I'll let you be the judge, but it's pretty cool. I used Ivory because I used to carve it with my pocket knife as a kid. I used a .125 ball nose bit, but thinking I'll try .0625 for more detail.

Very interesting. Did you make a tray to hold them or how did you clamp them down?

I simply put wood blocks on all 4 sides, clamping them down to hold the soap bar in place. No downward pressure was needed since its so soft.

Base circle, be sure to post them when their done. These remind me of the soap you can buy for your bathroom with all sorts of figures molded in, and they float too. Thinking of trying different colored soaps too. Nice thing about it, probably never ware out a bit.
