Another Big Rig Truck

Post by NewAgent45 »

We found a post on the Vectric forum by dhellew2 for a Kenworth Truck v-carve. The post inspired me to redesign it and add some details. I built this one for a good friend in the business.

The main additions include the use of two fluting toolpaths to taper the nose of the tractor and we build a dovetailed box for the trailer. We also cut our wheels from 1/2 Walnut. It might be hard to see the hexagons cut in the face of the tires to simulate lug-nuts. Since this was not built as a child's toy we finished with Satin Polyurethane. Acrylic paint was applied for accent areas after the first coat of poly then we sanded a little with 320 grit to cleanup the edge of the lettering. We applied a finish coat of Polyurethane to the entire truck to finish.

That came out very nice. One of these days I might start making cars and trucks, when I have the time. Thanks for the details.

Yes really nice, nice detail work. That would be an awesome toy though! As a new father I am interested in the finishing of wood stuffs for kids-what would you use if it were for a child?
