Nephew like to work on cars. He replaced his dash, but wanted to keep this one for his son to use as a nightlight. Made him a base, had my dad add 12v for the dash and her it is. Picture quality is not the best. 3/4 pine, 60-deg and 90-deg V-bits. Seal, paint in the lettering, sand off the excess paint and two coats of poly.

Umm.....please take this as the gentle nudge it is intended as. The gauge cluster re-use is cool. But....blue light for a nightlight should be avoided, as it makes the brain think the sun is up, and will mess up his son's sleep quality. Yeah, even if the car originally had the blue. If he's a teenager, getting good sleep is crucial. There is also some older evidence/claims that blue light also "turns off" night vision longer than reds, which is (supposedly) why car dashboards are almost exclusively red/orange.

Cheers, and again...a cool re-use. But, I'd change 'em to red LEDs.
