firefighter companion piece in brass

Post by studio-n »

this is a companion piece to the firefighter I put up last month with the resulting embossing. 3" piece of brass for a wallet back plate.
I cut this out on the shark. Don't worry, those tool marks are 0.15" below the surface and won't show up as you can see.

Cool stuff Nick. It's always hard to tell in pictures, but the carving in brass "goes in" to make the leather raised? What feeds and speeds do you use with the brass and what grade is the brass? Any lube during cutting? Thanks!

thank you. you are correct it is in relief so that the embossing is up. I run 10 IPM for 360 brass with a slow plunge of 3. When I run at home, it is an 18,000 RPM router. When I run on the HAAS vertical mill I run the same feed but the spindle at 3,000 rpm. No cutting fluid is needed.
