My wife came home with poster board and stencil to make signs for our HOA last week. I figured I could have the CNC do that just as easily, so I repurposed my earlier drag bit design with a few alterations to hold a permanent marker. 5 minutes of work and we were drawing pictures and signs.
Here's a video of the first drawing test we did. It's about 20 seconds long, sped up 4x. Kind of mesmerizing to watch.
From there we advanced to making the HOA signs.

Nice use of the drag tool concept and great results. I had thought about trying something similar to this but ended up sending it out due to lack of time to work it out. After your description I think I"ll give it a try myself.
