Pressure Foot for Shark HD Pro

I recently have been cutting a lot of small pieces out of thin plywood. Making 3D puzzle (dinosaurs and stuff) and found that even using masking tape and spray adhesive to hold the plywood down, that will small pieces the downdraft from my router was picking the pieces up, and sometimes causing them to be 'dinged' by the router, or flung across the room and lost entirely. (zing.... was that a T-Rex arm?)

Anyway, I thought that a pressure foot might help, and everything I could find online was well in excess of $200US. I figured I could do just as well designing one myself.

This is the result. Less than $30 of materials, a few hours of machine time and some design time.

It works pretty well, though I have had to get used to having a rather large foot print on the machine. My hold down strategy has had to change somewhat to accommodate.

Looks awesome! What a great idea. And, cheaper is nicer :D.

Did you consider making the bottom out of HDPE, Delrin or Teflon? There'd be no sliding resistance, and won't leave black Aluminum-oxide
marks on light wood. Maybe there was a reason aluminum is preferred?

Either way, great work. Nice to see someone else here unafraid of the metals.

Thom

Thanks Thom.

I thought about using something else for the base, but didn't have anything. I've waxed the bottom, so it slides pretty well, and doesn't leave residue, though I will have to keep waxing it regularly.
