Shifting table slats problem solved

Post by mdcavanaugh »

Decided to start new thread. It has been discussed how to solve the problem of clamping force lifting one slat and thus creating an unflat table. It was mentioned to challenge Rockler, NWA...nah! Found an easy cheap fix. I bought strips of HDPE from McMaster .375"x.50" and 36" long. One run through the planer and voila, they wedge nicely in between. Now the slats are married to eachother. McMaster item 8702K71 for 2.36/ft. Super simple fast and effective.

Excellent solution. It does not take any space under the table itself and locks the two pieces together along their entire length.
This should be standard from the factory, easy for them to do as they get the hdpe in bulk.
