Receptacle on Pendant for ... what?

There's a jack receptacle on the controller for the touch plate or touch probe. What is the jack receptacle on the side of the pendant used for? Can the touch plate or the touch probe be plugged into it instead of the controller? Seems like I tried it and it didn't work.

For anyone who may be interested, I talked to John with NWA tech support. He said that the jack on the pendant can be used for the touch plate but not the probe. The jack on the front of the controller can be used for either touch plate or probe.

When I had my HD4, the touch plate would not work when plugged into the pendant. I called and they told me to always plug it in the control box.
I guess it depends on who you talk to at support.
