Installed Gantry Height

The set up instructions say to put the bolts in the upper holes so that Gantry clearance in lowered..... since installing a 1 1/2 spoilboard, I could really use the additional clearance.
Any Down side to using the lower holes and giving myself more Gantry clearance ?

There's a little more flex in the gantry overall when it's in the high-mount holes, but honestly I think most of us have done that. I have a Kurt machining vise on my bed, and without moving it to the higher position, I'd never get anything cut :D. (That's CNC bed...minds out of gutters ;-) ). Only real advise on it is to avoid tweaking the structure of the gantry as you move it up. This change can also sometimes cause shorter bits to not reach the bed. In some cases, you might be able to get the height you need just by moving the router up a little in the mount brackets, so give that a look if you only rarely need the height.

And, of course, if it's not to your liking, you can always move it back :D.

Hope that helps you make the decision.

Regards,

Thom
