Z zero question

Post by MDHunt »

How can I reset the Z zero without resetting the X and Y?
I am doing a 3D carving and I initially set the Z zero from the machine bed and don't want to remove the piece I am working on to reset the zero when I change bits.
I am using a Shark HD4 with Aspire software.

Thanks,
MD

Yes, this can (and should) be done each time you change bits.

Are you using the Shark Control Panel? It's as easy as clicking "Z" in the upper-left corner.

Kayvon,
I am using the pendant for my controller.

MD,
Since you're setting Z zero to the bed, you can move the gantry to an area of the bed that is not covered by your carving and set Z zero there.
But, don't reset the X or Y.
If I'm understanding your question correctly.

Thanks guys, I did some investigating of the setting on the pendant and figured out how to change only the single axis.
I appreciate the help.

Glad you got it figured out!

Why are you using the bed for your Z zero? Just curious.

I also use the bed for my zero. I prefer doing this over choosing the top of material for zero because the material thickness may not perfectly match the design. By choosing the bed as zero, my spoil board lasts longer because I'm not milling into it very often.
