Shark HD5 play in the X axis

Post by GaryShaine »

Hi! I'm fairly new to the CNC world, but have a lot of computer/software/graphics experience. I've only done a couple small test carvings on my new machine, and they "kinda" work. Some of my V-Carves are coming in kind of jaggedy when doing smaller angles like the letter A for example. One thing that I noticed is that I some play on the X axis drive rod right where it goes out of the stepper motor and threw the gantry. There is a little collar there that looks like there should be 2 small allen strews in. There is only one & you can tell that there is some slippage there.
See the video here: https://youtu.be/an9657LT8-o

Is there a screw missing? Should the one that is on there be tightened?
Thanks for any help!

Gary

Thanks Tonydude! Kind of disheartened that they did not catch something like that before shipping it to me  But I understand things like that can happen. It seems like an easy fix. Pretty sure I have some of those laying around my shop. Hoping that will clean up the cuts!
Thanks again!

I was able to tighten that one Allen screw up and alleviate the play, which I’m hoping works for a short term solution. Looking at how close that collar is to the side of the gantry, it doesn’t look like the bigger screws will fit.
