Bosch Colt Router RPM suggestions

Post by sharkie »

As noted in earlier post, I have had my Pro for almost a year and love it. I have gone through 2 Bosch routers though and have spent the time to repair them so I have spares all the time. Was wondering though, what rpms or more specifically what number setting everyone uses for specific materials. I have been carving and cutting red oak 90% of the time, and have been using the top speed, #6 all the time. (except when I do any foam or really soft stuff). I am now wondering if that caused my wearing out routers or if it is just the adjustable switch. Should I use a mid rpm for the oak? Thanks in advance. By the way, I mostly use the v bits, and ogee to do borders before the end mill cut off.

I rarely run higher than a 4. Oak tends to burn at higher revs anyway. My router is still the original and has lots & lots of hours on it with our problem Also at 4 its not so loud. If need be, I slow down the run speed to comp for the slow router revs.
