Shark Pro Plus HD support rails

Post by winreboot »

Can anyone share some pictures of the Shark pro plus HD of the gantry support rails? I just can't find any pictures on the web that would display the support rails. The HD model supposed to be more solid and totally different then the Pro Plus but from the pictures can't tell much. I do notice there is some flex on the frame on my Pro Plus and was wondering if that was eliminated somehow on the HD model.

Thanks,
Dave

I would also like to see some pictures of the Shark HD support rails. I have the Pro Plus and like its production. However, it does have some flex which at times is frustrating. So before I invest in another Shark, I would like to see pictures of the upgrade or perhaps a short video on YouTube explaining and showing the upgrade.

i have the hd model and it also has flex in the gantry. i found that it comes from the linear bearings. i have ordered new thompson linear adjustable bearings to replace
the oem bearings. i will post again after i install and see how they help

It would be nice if someone could share pic's of their HD Shark rails. If I only know that it would have so much flex I would not go for the standard model... Now just have to try to fix what I have.

Here are some pictures of the parts to upgrade it. They are getting installed on Tuesday I hope time permitting. BIG big thanks to Bob as with out his help this would not be possible.

Probably not very good pictures but hopefully shows what you are looking for. The upgrade parts look awesome, but suspect they are not cheap.

Thanks for posting these pictures! I'm surprised that the folks from Nextwave or Rockler didn't do it. Seems an odd marketing strategy.

Clearly, the HD is better built than the other models, and for only a couple a hundred more than the next model down. The blue Rockler deck is still no where near the quality of the 8020 deck upgrade. Hey.. it looks cool though!

Thanks again for taking the time..

I used the bearings from Glacern Machine in my retrofit.
A 37" long pair is 160.00 total + shipping, (two rods and 4 bearing blocks). same 20mm dia as the shark rods.
http://www.glacern.com/sbr

These liner bearing rods are very strong and rigid. The aluminum support extrusion runs the full length of the rod and is bolted to the rod all along its length.
When that extrusion is then bolted to the machine, it is even stronger.

I believe this is what Dave is also using in his project pictured earlier.
