My old variable speed Bosch Colt was fine until it needed to be replaced. The new Colt runs so hot that I cannot touch the collet after 5 minutes of just running at setting 3 - not cutting anything! I got another new replacement and found the same. My old Colt never had a heat problem like these. What is the issue?
Anyone have ideas on how to fix this?
Mike

Re: Bosch Colt Running Hot
Hi Mike,
That type of heat would be unusual at speed 3 for normal feed rates. What size bit were you using? Do you get the same heat with your smallest bit? Have you modified the router clamp?
The lower bearing in the router is suspect if you are seeing that much heat at the collet. If the aluminum at the bottom of the router is also hot I would think that bearing is not right. Low lube or bad internal clearance could be the issue.
I worked wih a Dave Molnar once in NJ.
