Max feed rate vs tool size vs material type vs...

Post by texasinmi »

Experts,

I keep breaking my router bits, I am sure I am the only one who has this problem. I have to think there is some sort of table that correlates feed rate vs amount of detail vs tool size vs material type vs depth of cut and width of cut plus who know what all else. I see some people cut at 100 ipm (inches per minute). If I go that fast the results look really bad or I break by router bit or both. I have broken bits as thick as 1/4 in.

Any general guide lines or engineering specifics would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Depends on the model of shark you have. If you can give an example of the last bit that broke i.e. bit size, feed rate, plunge rate, step over, type of material.... I have lots of experience in breaking bits, but I dont think we are alone. When sid the bit break, in the beginning, middle or near the end of a program.
